Thirty-six parties and more than 1,500 groups registered at the National Electoral Council participated in the recent elections, endorsing governors, mayors, departmental assemblies and municipal councils.

The result is consistent with the phenomenon that Latin America is experiencing: an atomization of political forces.

Several countries in the region will hold elections soon. In some cases, pre-existing crises triggered intense mobilizations that were drastically interrupted by the pandemic. The situation, for all these cases, revolves around the connection between economic crisis and health crisis.
