After the application of the so-called "mutual death" in Ecuador last May, the whole country is living in a situation of haste and political pressure regarding the early elections to be held in August of this year.

For the new administration everything will depend on three factors: the capacity of the Executive to include popularly supported and transversal measures, the cohesion of the benches in the Assembly under a governance logic, and social conflict.

Exactly one year ago we saw the dramatic scenes of corpses piled up in hospital wards, in refrigerated containers, inside homes and on the sidewalks of the city of Guayaquil. These were the first images of the devastating effects of the pandemic in Ecuador in the eyes of the world.
